Travel Information
Salida is located just off Colorado US Hwy 285
From the North and East.....CO Hwy 285 near US Hwy 50
Driving time from Denver is approximately 2.5 hours on Hwy 285. This is a less trafficked road- easier on the traveler in our opinion...allow extra time, you never know when the powers that be designate summer road repairs. You will pass through Conifer, Bailey, Jefferson (great homemade fudge!) and Fairplay. Watch for the buffalo and you'll see some antelope, too.
From Colorado Springs the drive is about 2 hours through Canon City. Then you'll be riding along the Arkansas River in one of Colorado's spectacular canyons. Watch for "Itty Bitty Lakes", a sweet little art gallery in the valley right on the highway. Bighorn sheep can be spotted one the canyon walls. Once you are in Howard, its just another 20 minutes to Salida.
Alternate route from Denver.....Interstate 70......A beautiful scenic drive- with lots more traffic.
From the South....Colorado US Hwy 17 to Hwy 285
Driving time from Alamosa is approximately 1.5 hours. You may want to plan to stop at Joyful Journey Hot Springs and Spa to refresh yourself and enjoy the Sangre de Christo mountain range...beautiful!
Stop in at the Villa Grove Trade for specialty coffees and an excellent meal...the pies are exceptional and the staff knows how to treat travellers!
From the West
From Grand Junction, Colorado... just stay on US Hwy 50 all the way to Salida. Drive through Delta (great town murals!), Montrose and Gunnison and then over Monarch Pass into Salida. A wonderful scenic drive!
